iOS AppVocabulary · Review · Text recognition

Overview

Vocab Vault (formerly WordTrainer) helps you practise your own vocabulary. Enter word pairs, take over checked entries from a text capture or a CSV file and review them with flashcards, multiple-choice questions, typed answers and cloze texts.

The current app stores vocabulary and learning progress locally. There is no app account and no sync service of its own.

Screenshots

Real views of the app in a newly set up iOS Simulator. The English–Spanish word pairs, points and progress were created as fictional demo data for this purpose. No personal word lists, photos, accounts or data from the developer’s device are used.

Captured on 26 October 2026. Select a capture to preview it in the same window. Use the arrow buttons or arrow keys to change the image and Escape to close the preview. The app interface follows the Simulator’s system language (here German, partly still English).

Detailed description

Your own vocabulary at a glance

Enter and edit word pairs with language assignment, example sentences and keywords. Search and filter your collection by language, learning status or due date. Daily goals, experience points, streaks and awards give a playful overview. They are not a confirmed assessment of your language skills.

Practise and review

Flashcards, multiple-choice questions, typed answers and cloze texts support different kinds of exercises. Review scheduling takes earlier answers into account. Answer checking recognises stored variants and partly tolerates similar spellings. This means that unsuitable answers can be accepted or correct answers rejected.

Text capture, pronunciation and sentence templates

The optional camera capture or a selected image is processed on the device with Apple’s Vision text recognition. Check and correct recognised word pairs and the column and language assignment before importing. Pronunciation uses the available system voices. Example sentences are built from local templates and automatic language detection. The app does not use a cloud AI service for this and does not provide checked translations.

CSV files and backups

CSV files can import word pairs. The export contains word pairs, score and an example sentence, but a later import only takes over the two word columns. Language assignment, keywords, full example information and learning progress therefore cannot be fully restored this way. A CSV export is not a complete backup. Keep independent backups that you can check.

Privacy

Words, examples and review data are kept in the local SwiftData database, settings, points and streaks in the local app settings. The reviewed app has no server access of its own, no app account and no advertising or analytics SDK. Photos and files are only processed after you select them. Device or iCloud backups and storage providers you choose can contain copies independently of the app.

Use, learning content and liability

Use the app at your own risk. No particular learning or exam result is guaranteed. The app does not provide certified translations or medical, legal or other professional advice. Do not use its output unchecked for important decisions.

To the extent permitted by law, the app is provided without warranty of accuracy, completeness, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, liability for damage from use or unavailability is excluded, in particular for data loss, lost profits and consequential damage.

Mandatory legal rights and liability remain unaffected, in particular for intent or gross negligence and where liability for personal injury cannot be excluded.
